Old scans, past revisited
Boxes of slides from the past, thousands of slides, all neatly kept in three ring binders. My fathers slides are sixty to seventy years old at this point. Where to begin? For me, it was easy – towards the end. Images of people, places and things that I had the best chance of remembering.
A few from the 80’s
Tracked this snapshot down with the help of Google maps. It was taken on Commercial Street in Provincetown Massachusetts in 1985. The Old Colony Tap house and the Governor Bradford Restaurant are still in business. Can almost see the Lobster Pot on the right.
Current view of about the same spot:
Past Presents
It is interesting to look at some of the nature scenes that he shot. The colors are now a bit different than when he originally had created them. Time in the box, time in general, then the scanning process….but, they still stand up in my opinion.
Past time
I was around 15 or so when these were taken. I didn’t have the time back then to ask him “what was your process for shooting these images?” Or, “did you intend to capture the tree in the background bending the same was as the grasses in the foreground?” Time. I guess when you are young you just don’t know what is going to be important to the future you.
What’s in your box of slides?
Do you have a box of slides, or photographs, from the past? What are your plans to do with them? I’ve got my work cut out with all of these. As time permits, I will be sharing more. Trying to preserve the integrity of the images and the image maker.
